If the boungou gold mine suffered heavy losses due to the attack, can it resume production? Waiting for further safety assessment

2019-11-14

Semafo, a Canadian gold mining company, said on Monday it will not resume operations until it is safe after an attack on its convoy last week that killed at least 39 people on its way to the boungou gold mine in Burkina Faso, the West African country.

Benoit desormeaux, President and CEO of the company, said that the attack had a huge impact on the normal operation of the project. The company needed some time to make a new assessment of the operation environment of the project. The company was also considering safe and reliable operation mode, so the operation of boungou gold mine would be suspended before that.

Previously, the mine had been predicted to produce 220000-240000 ounces of gold in 2019. (From CCMN)
