The Ministry of iron and steel of India has issued the relevant scrap recycling policy, requiring all departments to increase the effective utilization of scrap by 7 million tons. According to the policy, through the establishment of scrap recycling centers in various parts of India, the establishment of scrap environmental management system, and the encouragement of scrap processing and recycling, the dependence on imported scrap will be minimized to achieve self-sufficiency.

According to the policy data, India currently has about 25 million tons of scrap from the domestic unorganized industry, importing 7 million tons of scrap annually, with a cost of about 245 billion Indian rupees (US $3.45 billion). It is expected that about 70 collection and processing centers will be needed to complete the implementation of this policy. (From Csteel)
