Indonesia imposes "protective" tariffs on imported aluminum foil

2019-11-07

Jakarta, Nov. 6 - Indonesia has imposed "protective" tariffs on imported aluminum foil to protect its domestic industry from a surge in imports, the Ministry of trade said Wednesday.

From November 7, 2019 to November 6, 2020, 6% tariff will be levied, and from November 7, 2020 to November 6, 2021, 4% tariff will be levied.

Mardjoko, chairman of kppi, said the decision would allow the domestic aluminum foil industry to make structural adjustments and compete with similar imported products.

In February, Indonesia informed the World Trade Organization (WT0) that it planned to impose a "protective" tariff of 22% on imported aluminum foil, citing a substantial increase in imports. (From CCMN)
