Vedanta, a diversified miner, said later on Friday that it was "deeply concerned" about reports of a sulfide leak at its nchanga smelter in Zambia's KCM company.

According to the report, KCM employees and school students near nchanga smelter have been hospitalized.

Vedanta has not been in contact with any of KCM's facilities since the appointment of interim liquidator Milingo Lungu on May 21, the company said.

Vedanta said that since May 21, the company has repeatedly tried to reach out to Milingo Lungu on areas of concern, particularly with regard to the safety and maintenance of KCM facilities. (From CBC)
