Nomickel, Russia: 28000 tons of global nickel material shortage in 2020

2019-11-19

Moscow, Nov. 18 - nornickel, a Russian mining giant, said on Monday it expects a global shortage of 28000 tons of nickel in 2020.

The company said it expects a supply shortage of 57000 tons in the global nickel market this year.

High grade nickel demand in Europe is expected to increase as local stainless steel producers have restructured their raw materials, the company said.

The company also said it expects demand for nickel in the automotive battery industry to increase as the global nickel market is expected to experience a structural supply-demand gap after 2020.

Norilsk also said it was skeptical that Indonesia's new ferronickel capacity would be sufficient to meet long-term demand. (From CCMN)
