American steel company announced layoffs at two iron mines

According to foreign media reports, two mines in ironrange iron ore mining area will be laid off by US steel on the basis of market cost reduction, citing "the current market situation is full of challenges".

Among them, minntac iron mine in mountain iron area and keetac iron mine in keewatin area are affected, and about 30 employees will be dismissed, including the manager of keetac mine and a union chairman of minntac mine.

U.S. steel announced in mid October that it would shut down a production line at the minntac mine, but did not plan to cut jobs. Steel prices have been falling in recent months, with the company last week reporting a third quarter loss of $35 million, its first financial loss since last year's US tariffs on imported steel. (From LGMI)
